Susan E. Mehrtens PhD "Susan Mehrtens began her professional life as a college professor, earning a Ph.D. from Yale University in medieval studies in 1973, and teaching at Queens College of the City University of New York and College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. In mid-life she experienced an "upending event" initiated by a series of unusual dreams, which led her to Carl Jung and his work. That encounter first saved her life, then reoriented it. In analysis since 1985 with 4 Jungian analysts, she left college teaching and ran a research business while she trained in spiritual science with the Baltimore Spiritual Science Center, the School for Enlightenment and Healing, the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, and Atlantic University, from which she received a Master's degree in 1997. In 2005, she founded the Jungian Center for the Spiritual Sciences to fulfill Jung's vision of a form of adult education that would foster individuation. She is the author, co-author or editor of numerous books, including The Fourth Wave, Intuitive Imagery, Revisioning Science, How to Survive and Thrive in the Coming Earth Changes, and Jung the Man: His Life Examined.
