Capital Groups Holds First Mini Reunion... May 16 - 18, 2008

Comments: "What a treat getting together with old HS friends. I had read (on the web site) that when everyone gets together it does not matter who was friends with who or anything like that, you just have this wonderful bonding from sharing Mineola HS memories with one another, from classes to elections (Ralph Sammis talked about an injustice from our election in our senior year and it seemed to take him all the way back there like it was yesterday). I loved meeting everyone but the best connection was meeting Shannon who lives right near me and we plan to follow up and get together soon! She is very "artsy", like me and (also like Pam Harrison). Shannon takes amazing photographs , not like me but something I aspire to - actually I want to make films. I use a camcorder but dream of going to film school!

Welcome to the Capital Group News...Taking a cue from the Florida Mini Reunion... Class Members (including those in the area from our sister classes) from the Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and North Carolina attended the first Mini Reunion in May 2008. Shannon (Rafferty) Savage and husband John planned and hosted the Capital Group's first Mini Reunion.

Thank You to Shannon and John Savage

..."Our plans to meet on Friday night were short-lived as most of the folks from out of town had family to visit while they were in the DC area. This multiple-use of the trip provided an opertunity for folks to visit old friends as well as family. accordingly we changed plans and decided to just make it Saturday afternoon and evening.

Judy Haseman Miller came down on Friday evening parlaying a trip to her daughter's home in Carlisle, Pennsylvania to attend her grandchild's kindergarten graduation into the mix. Judy stayed with John and I in Bethesda. We had a great chance to talk while she helped me with all the food preparations for Saturday afternoon. Phyllis Muller traveled to Mac and Trudy Ogilvie's house in Springfield, VA. Pam (Harrison) and husband Joe Bender came from York, PA on Saturday. Sue (Newbold) and husband Burt Linkonis drove all the way from North Carolina to join us and visit their daughter in the DC area.

A last minute surprise came about when Doris (Young) and husband Paul Popson called to join us all the way from Florida. They also have children in the area to visit. The spouses all seemed to have fit right in even though the chatter was riotous. Barbara Karro arrived and we all pumped her to see if she was still acting. We'll never forget her "Anne Frank". She is hoping to find some parts soon. It is never too late! Rich Bernardi and wife Joyce Wilker were a pleasant addition to the group. There were so many connections that many of us had forgotten and little details of which others reminded us. Pam (Sneddon) and husband Bill Siddon helped to make the evening a real success. They were a part of the noisy table of "youngsters" from the class of 64!

Lastly, our GO president, Ralph Sammis joined us and made our sides split when he brought up an old thorn in his shoe about the campaign speeches (see photo). Doris Young (campaign manager) had some great comeback for him and we all laughed. Three quarters of the old VIP party were there - Mac, Ralph and me. Where are you Meredith? The current political campaign could use us now!! We went to dinner at New Orleasn Bistro in Bethesda, We had a woderful eveing and were so tired from talking and laughing all afternoon that by the time we went to dinner we were lucky we made it there.

The folks staying at the nearby Marriott joined us for breakfast on Sunday morning to say our farewells as we had the previous night to local DC Area folks. Judy hopped a ride back to Pennsyvania with Pam and Joe so I am sure the laughs went on. A special thank you to all the spouses and a very special thank you to John Savage for all his help.

OK, who is going next? E-mail me if you are thinking about it and I will tell you how much fun it was and can be for you." - Shannon (your senior class secretary)

Word has it that the Capital Group may repeat next year with a "Mustangs" gathering in the land of the "Groundhog"... Punxsutatawney, Pennsyvania, according to Judy (Hasemann) Miller!
