Class of '63 meets in Charleston, SC October 8-11, 2005

Due to the fact that we had too much of a good time at our 40th Reunion, our first annual event was held October 8-11 in the charming city of Charleston, South Carolina. Twenty four classmates and spouses were able to attend and what a wonderful time was had by all. Again a huge thank you to the 're-up' ed Reunion Committee: Marianne Schiralli, Barbara Larson Damon, Joanne Tekieniewski Noga and Tom Mohrman for another outstanding job well done.

Friday evening after everyone had arrived the group was transported to Mount Pleasant for an ecology boat cruise of Charleston's harbor. This was followed by a seafood dinner at the Boat House in Charleston on East Bay Street.

Saturday morning we enjoyed a walking tour of Charleston's Historic District and enjoyed the afternoon touring, shopping or resting up.

The evening was very memorable as we again hopped into vans and traveled to Middleton Plantation on the Ashley River, fifteen miles from Charleston. We toured the beautiful grounds, disturbed the resident gator and had a wonderful candlelight dinner in a private room at the plantation. We even got to sing our Alma Mater for old times sake, though it wasn't the same without Class President Rich Ottaviano here to lead us. We returned to the Holiday Inn Historic District and reconvened at the hotel's lounge for further conversation.

On Sunday, another group met at the "High Cotton" restaurant for Sunday Brunch (the expression "high cotton" means to be doing very well for yourself - according to Gene Borstel, if you got to pick the high cotton, you didn't have to bend over to pick the low cotton).

As Sunday was an open day, some classmates visited Fort Sumter, others Patriots Point and toured the USS Yorktown.

Charleston has a long rich history, particularly its Civil War history and Charlestonians still boast about being the first state to secede from the Union as well as being the site of the first Civil War battle over Fort Sumter.

We all met at six in the evening and walked to a local ice cream shop for dinner (yes an ice cream dinner!) and later, when the sun set, we met again at a roof-top restaurant for drinks and some farewells.

Monday was our travel day but not until the remaining classmembers met for breakfast and goodbyes. Sadly our weekend was over but plans had begun to take shape for 2005. perhaps on the west coast in the city by the bay.
