Sunshine, Sand and Palm Trees... Perhaps the best weather in the continental United States and for some of us it conjures up what the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean and The Surfaries were singing about in the early sixties. San Diego has all the beach culture and the sophistication of a major city and a lot more. For those of us that have spent time here know what a great time we'll have and for those of us that have yet to discover San Diego, I have provided a list of maps, attractions and tours for you to explore.

San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter Sidewalk cafes and open air restaurants, jazz clubs, late night dancing and entertainment, interesting shops and artist's galleries, micro breweries, and distinctive hotels, all these elements contribute to the festive spirit of San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. This unique district is located in a 16 square block area downtown. You can spend quite a bit of time exploring the Gaslamp District. Close by to public transportation and other tourist areas of the city.

Mission Bay (Mission Beach) Located Northwest of downtown San Diego it is home to Belmont Park a historic beachfront amusement park featuring"The Big Dipper" a 1925 wooden roller coaster.

Also on Mission Bay's south shore is Seaworld, San Diego an 189-acre adventure park featuring Shamu the performing whale.

Old Town San Diego State Historic District Park located just north of downtown San Diego is one of my favorite visits. Old Town San Diego art old western restored village, tourist shopping mall and museum it is always an enjoyable visit.
Point Loma at the extreme western point of San Diego north of the harbor is Cabrillo National Monument and The Old Point Loma Lighthouse. Both these sights are worth visiting.

San Diego Bay flanked by the U.S. Coast Guard Base, U.S. Marine Corp Recruit Depot and the Naval Air Station North Island. The Marine Corps Recruit Depot Command Museum. 22,000 Sq Ft of exhibits on Marine Corps trianing and life in the Corps. Oo-Rah and Semper Fi!

Downtown on the Embarcadero is the Maritime Museum of San Diego. The museum includes historic vessels including 1863 tall ship Star of India, the 1898 ferry Berkeley a working 1914 pilot boat and the 1848 revenue cutter California as well other exhibits. This is a great museum.

The USS Midway Museum is located on Harbor drive at the Navy Pier. Forty seven years of Naval Aviation history spanning World War II through Desert Storm. More than 60 exhibits and aircraft. The largest ship in the world for 10 years. Our longest serving Aircraft Carrier in the fleet. I can't wit to walk her decks.

The Mission Basilica San Diego De Alcala is located on San Diego Mission Road. in Mission Valley. This was the first of California's Missions found by Father Serra. The initial mission located closer to the harbor was moved to the present site in 1744. It is refereed to as the Mother of the Missions.
Carlsbad The village of Carlsbad is a beach resort community north of San Diego. Interesting downtown shopping and is home to Legoland California. Legoland is a 128-acre walking tour of structures made from the colored plastic building blocks.
La Jolla The community of La Jolla with it's rocky coast, sandstone cliffs, fine beaches and very fine shopping and restruants. La Jolla... we all want to live here. La Jolla by the Sea home to the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute Of Oceanography. My favorite spot for breakfast... a basket of French pastries and a cup of coffee at the French Bakery Cafe on La Jolla Blvd.

Coronado located on a peninsula between San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, Coronado is a quick trip across the Coronado Bridge or a short ferry ride from San Diego Harbor, Coronado is home to more retired Admirals than any other place in the United States with North Island Naval Air Station on it's northwestern end. San Diago is the homeport to two of our Pacific Fleet's aircraft carriers.

Importantly, Coronado is home to the 1888 Hotel Del Coronado. The "Hotel Del" is must see attraction. It has a stretch of nice shops and small restaurants and is a pleasant visit by ferry.

San Diego Zoo The San Diego Zoo located in Balboa Park is one of the largest zoos in the world. It is so large it opened a second animal park the San Diego Wild Animal Park in Escondido, CA. Both are clearly world class attractions. The San Diego Zoo exhibits more than 4000 animals representing 800 species in enclosures closely simulating their natural environments. Highlights include walk-through aviaries, koalas, giant pandas and primate exhibits. The zoo features moving sidewalks and an aerial tramway running from one end of the zoo to the other.
