Pacific Coastal - Two Days

The Oregon Coast is beautiful and dramatic. You can pick a location in the middle and spend one day touring the coast north to Astoria and the other south to Newport.

Astoria

When you finally arrive in Astoria there is plenty to see and do. To start there is the Columbia River Maritime Museum, In town there is the restored Liberty Theater and a great Scandinavian gift store, lots of antique shops as well. The Oregon's Rogue Brewery where you can view California sea lions basking on the docks. Back in town there is the Victorian Flavel House and The Astoria Column where you can buy a small balsa airplane climb to the top of the column and launch the little plane and watch it land. The Column commerorates the Lewis and Clark expeditions. Outside of of twon is Fort Cltsop constructed by the Lewis and Clark Party. Lastly the View the Astoria-Megler Bridge which Spans the Columbia River with Washington on the other side.

Tillamook

Located at the intersection of Route 1 Pacific Coast Highway and Route 6 Tillamook offers much that is not visiable from the highway. You have to drive to the coast. There is the Cape Meares Lighthouse and the Tillamook Forest and Cape Lookout State Park (the beach) but there is one lace you can see from the highway and it is a mandatory stop. The Tillamook Creamery. This is a temple devoted to the Diary industry. Completly rebuilt and easily three times larger than the one we can to know and love. The Templortary facility last year was a WOW I can't wait to see the new one npow that it is open.

Neskowin and Lincoln City

A good base area for touring the upper half of Oreegon's Coast. Neskowin is know for its small communities and prestine beaches. Just south is Lincoln City which is the area's tourist center with every amenity including a facoty outlet store center on the south end of town. Along the coast there are many seafood restaurants and one of the best is Mo's. There are six along the coast. One is located near Lincoln City and offers a wonder setting in a cove where you can watch sea otters.

Florence

Take the road less traveled and head for the harbor. Aside from the famous Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, The quaint harbor "Old Town" is a relaxing visit with shops, restauarants and coffee houses. I recommend a stop for at one shop where you can drink your cup in the back and enjoya wonderful view of the bay.
